Our social media presence
Data processing via social networks
We maintain publicly accessible profiles on social networks. The individual social networks we use are listed below.
Social networks such as Facebook, Google+ etc. are generally able to thoroughly analyze your user behavior if you visit their websites or a website with embedded social media content (e.g. like buttons or ad banners). Visiting our social media presence triggers countless processing operations that are relevant to privacy. In detail:
If you are logged into your social media account and visit our social media presence, the operator of the social media platform can attribute this visit to your user account. Under certain circumstances, your personal data may also be collected if you are not logged in or if you do not have an account with the social media platform in question. For instance, such data collection could occur through cookies that are stored on your device, or by recording your IP address.
Using data collected in this manner, the operators of social media platform can create user profiles that store your preferences and interests. This makes it possible to show you advertisements related to your interests both within and outside of the social media platform in question. If you have an account with the relevant social network, interest-based advertising may be displayed for all devices on which you are or were logged in.
Please note as well that we are unable to trace all processing operations on these social media platforms. Depending on the provider, additional processing operations may be carried out by the operators of the social media platforms. You can find details in this regard from the terms of use and privacy policy for each social media platform.
Legal basis
Our social media presence is intended to ensure a comprehensive online presence. In this context, we are pursuing a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 (1)(f) GDPR. The analysis initiated by social networks may have a different legal basis that must be indicated by the operators of the social networks (e.g. consent within the meaning of Art. 6 (1)(a) GDPR.
Controller and exercising rights
When you visit one of our social media presences (e.g. Facebook) we are jointly responsible for the data processing operations triggered during this visit, together with the operator of the social media platform. As a rule, you can exercise your rights (information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and complaints) either vis-à-vis us or vis-à-vis the operator of the social media platform in question (for instance, Facebook).
Please note that we do not have full control over the data processing operations carried out by social media platforms despite our joint responsibility with the social media platform operators. Our options are primarily based on the company policy of the respective provider.
Storage duration
The data we directly collect through our social media presence will be deleted by our systems as soon as the purpose for storage has been fulfilled, or if you request us to delete the data or withdraw your consent to its storage. Stored cookies will remain on your device until you delete them. Mandatory statutory provisions, particularly retention periods, remain unaffected.
We have no influence on the duration of storage for data concerning you that is stored by operators of social networks for their own purposes.
